Hinkley Point Wage Agreement

Hinkley Point Wage Agreement

Kevin Coyne, Unite National Officer, said, „This is a state-of-the-art agreement for a new state-of-the-art nuclear project at Hinkley Point.“ The collective agreements of the Hinkley Point C project, like this one, will also help make possible one of our fundamental objectives: to attract new entrants from the local community to construction workers. Gmb Secretary of State Phil Whitehurst said he hoped the agreement would create „an open and transparent relationship.“ EDF Energy has signed a groundbreaking contract for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant, which will make it the highest-paid site in the UK. The site-specific stand-alone agreement with construction unions GMB and Unite also prohibits the use of temporary workers who provide for PAYE`s labour. Phil Whitehurst, LA SAR`s national manager, said: „This „Best in Class“ agreement was unanimously approved by construction company leaders. Peter Hughes, Unite`s regional secretary, said: „This is a pioneering agreement that will now serve as a benchmark for the pay rates of flagship projects across the UK. The agreed rates of pay at Hinkley Point will provide a significant boost to the local economy and, with the project`s ambitious learning program, will generate much-needed skills increases and investments in the Southwest region. EDF`s determination to negotiate an agreement was essential to ensure that wage negotiations were resolved satisfactorily. Peter Hughes, Unite`s regional secretary, said: „This is a pioneering agreement that will now serve as a benchmark for the pay rates of flagship projects across the UK.“ The new wage offer, which will apply to more than 1,000 construction workers, provides that Hinkley Point employees will receive 36% more than the minimum wages agreed by the construction sector and the joint council, which constitute the national civil engineering agreement, and show a 2.9% increase in the maximum gross salary compared to previous agreements. The wage increase will include a portion of the previous bonuses in the base salary of employees.
